The 2005 Clean Energy Entrepreneur of the Year Award with an award of $15,000 cash and services was presented to H2Go - SolFocus. A developer of solar concentrators, SolFocus aims to provide solar power solutions competitive with classic energy.
Nov. 2005: Founded by Gary D. Conley and Steve Horne.
SolFocus was founded in November 2005 by Gary D. Conley and Steve Horne to enable CPV technology as a mainstream, low-cost source of energy. It was a typical two-men-in-a-garage beginning with its roots seated in a desire to learn.
Ancora Imparo. These words, most famously attributed to Michelangelo, translate to Still I am learning. It was these words which drove Gary throughout his career. It was his desire for learning that guided him through his angel-investing era, and on to form H2Go in 2000 where he began to research and learn about renewable energy and hydrogen. Through his hydrogen research, he recognized the urgent need for renewable, low-cost electricity. This led his research to solar and concentrator photovoltiacs (CPV) as a means of helping meet the growing demand for electricity.
With the technology researched and through feasibility testing, Gary joined forces with Steve Horne to form SolFocus to commercialize the innovative concentrated solar technology that was developed as a research investigation at H2Go.
From the start the focus at SolFocus was on low cost and high volume manufacturability. These same principals still drive the companys technology decisions two years later.
