Director of Utility Sales

The Director of Utility Sales will be responsible for utilizing his/her knowledge of the utility industry (IOU and POU) to understand, develop, and execute a business plan for sales with utilities. The Director of Utility Sales must have experience in selling large scale projects to utility customers, be able to put together the required project approach including developers, financial partners, etc. to bring a deal to fruition. Includes responsibility for building relationships within targeted utilities, maintaining these relationships, and working with the SolFocus team to create visibility at all appropriate levels. Position will also play a critical role in bringing customer needs into the product evolution plans of the company as well as support and O&M segments of the business.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Develop and execute business plan/strategy to penetrate utility opportunities.
  • Penetrate targeted utilities and establish who key decision makers are in given organizations; build long-term relations for large-scale project sales; facilitate penetration of account at all appropriate levels, aligning SolFocus team with those contacts; bring customer requirements to forefront for company in product/service offering and plans.
  • Support annual, quarterly, and monthly sales forecasting, pipeline and RFP activities; represent company at appropriate conferences; provide customer-level knowledge to marketing/PMO/Executive Staff.

Skills

  • Deep understanding of the electric utility industry required; renewable experience and/or solar in particular
  • Exceptional communication skills, including interpersonal, written and spoken
  • Strong team-orientation skills required-will be required to coalesce PMO/Marketing/Field Support around customer requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking required as well as analytical skills.
  • Ability to work knowledgeably and collaboratively inside SolFocus.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of sales and utility customers; complex systems and solutions versus simple products.
  • 8-10 years sales or marketing experience
  • Technical ability to grasp complex projects
  • BA in Business, Science or Engineering field; MBA a plus
  • Customer-references required (utility)
