SolFocus Headquarters Awarded LEED® Platinum Certification

Company Facility Contributes to City of San Jose's Green Vision

SolFocus Headquarters San Jose, Calif., November 29, 2011 – SolFocus today announced that the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-Commercial Interior (LEED®) Platinum certification for its headquarters in San Jose, Calif. LEED is USGBC’s leading rating system for designing and constructing the world’s greenest, most energy efficient, and high performing buildings.

“The LEED certifications are a validation of SolFocus’ efforts to promote environmental stewardship and create healthy work environments that fit the needs of our employees, vendors and clients,” said Mark Crowley, CEO of SolFocus. “We are proud to have achieved this level of sustainability for our headquarters in San Jose.”

SolFocus received the LEED-CI certification for an existing LEED-NC Silver certified building that the company renovated and established as its headquarters in mid-2011. The company achieved this certification in two phases, design and construction.

Sustainable features of the building include high-efficiency lighting, heating and cooling systems, and water-saving technologies. When SolFocus moved into the building, it used 62 percent of the existing building interior’s nonstructural items and diverted 89 percent of construction waste from landfills to re-use and recycling.

“With this groundbreaking certification in San Jose, SolFocus has raised the bar for other Silicon Valley companies seeking to introduce sustainable, environmentally-friendly practices into their facilities,” said Richard Fedrizzi, CEO of USGBC. “USGBC congratulates SolFocus on this environmental achievement.”
